This course explores in detail the major systems via srotamsi (channels) as explained in the classical texts of Ayurvedic Medicine including various disorders, assessment and treatment. Students learn the causes, signs and symptoms, and pathogenesis of the disorders, as well as treatments through diet, lifestyle, herbal formulas and other therapies. The srotamsi explored are: Mahavaha (GI tract) Pranavaha (respiratory), Rasavaha (lymphatics) and Jwara (infectious disease).
Course Objective
1. Explain the samprapti for each srotas (mahavaha, pranavaha, rasavaha) and jwara.
2. Demonstrate the relationship and activity of the subdoshas in each srotas and jwara.
3. List in Sanskrit and describe in English (at least 8) common roga for each srotas and jwara.
4. Categorize purvaroopa, roopa, and nidana/hetu and jwara for each roga according to dosha.
5. Determine single herb and classical formulations that can be used for each srotas and jwara.
6. Design a chikitsa plan for each srotas and jwara. Suggest ahara, vihara (including shodhana and shamana)
7. Summarize why the digestive system and its various functions are so important in Ayurvedic nidana and chikitsa.
8. Name the subdoshas that have hridaya as their seat and explain its significance.
