Ashtanga Hridayam IV


Course Description
Ashtanga Hridayam is one of the three major literary works of Ayurveda. The course will include Suthrasthana chapters 11-12. These chapters deal with the fundamental concepts of dosas, dhatus and malas in Ayurveda. A deep knowledge of these topics are essential for preventive medicine, diagnosis as well as treatment. Completion of Part I, II, or III is not necessary to understand and enjoy Part IV. In Ashtangahrudyam IV you will be learning the core concepts of Ayurvedic physiopathology.

Course Objective
Understand the concept of dosha, dhatu and mala and their role in physiological and pathological states of the body Understand the properties and functions of dosas and their classification. Understand the functions of the different types of dosas Understand the process of vitiation of the dosas Understand the signs of deranged dosas Understand the properties and functions of dhatus Understand the properties and functions of malas Understand the signs of increase and decrease of dosas, dhatus and malas Understand the normal and abnormal states of Ojas. Understand the three pathways of disease (rogamarga) Understand the classification of diseases Understand the principles of diagnosing diseases Understand the permutation and combination of dosas.

Provider Bio Rammanohar Puthiyedath graduated from Bharathiar University, TamilNadu, India, in Ayurveda (BAMS) and completed post-graduate (MD Ay) training in Ayurveda Pharmacology (Dravyaguna) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, India. He has 30 years of research experience and currently serves as Head of Research at Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kollam, Kerala, India. He also serves as Director of the Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda.
