Bio:
Scott has integrated Traditional Chinese (TCM), Ayurveda, Yoga somatics, and evidence based nutrition into his clinical practice and educational offerings for more than 25 years. Experience has taught him that the one secret to health is not a what, not a product or a specific practice, but how to adapt whatever you are doing so it remains potent and agile through the days and seasons of your life.

Scott received his Biology degree in 1993 from UC Santa Cruz and his TCM licensure from the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine in 1998. Renowned Ayurvedic physician and scholar Dr. Robert Svoboda mentored Scott and they have worked together for more than twenty years. Additionally, Scott studied hatha yoga with master Shandor Remete (Sundernath) for over 20 years.

Always passionate about integrative medicine, Scott began his career pioneering yoga-based wellness classes and acupuncture at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara and Hospice of Santa Barbara in 1996. Since 2008, he has been a faculty member of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda.

The LGBTQ+ community faces a dual impact of greater healthcare issues due to marginalization, combined with unequal healthcare access and discrimination. There are inclusive references to the LGBTQ+ community in Vedic times and I have established best practices for providing culturally competent, affirming Ayurvedic healthcare management through my AD research which was peer-reviewed and selected for the 2024 NAMA conference Digital Poster Presentation. I would like to present these practices for Ayurveda Schools, Providers, Associations and other stakeholders to implement.

Bio:
Anuradha Gupta, AD is an Engineer, MBA, and 200 HYT. She is a Guest Faculty, Content Specialist and AP Mentor at Kerala Ayurveda, USA with her own practice, Ayurvedic Footprints. She is a prolific writer. Anu is an Art of Living meditator and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. She was on NAMA’s DEI committee, is on the Board of her local PFLAG and her AD Research was, “Establishing best practices for LGBTQ+ healthcare in Ayurveda”.

Presenters

Susan Etheridge is an attorney with over 30 years of legal experience. She is also a NAMA certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist. Susan currently serves as President of Alternative Health Law Firm. Her practice is primarily focused in the areas of alternative and integrative healthcare, technology, and the manufacture and distribution of botanical products. Susan has served in leadership roles involving access to plant medicine.  She is a graduate of Florida State University and Boston University School of Law, and she is a member of The Florida Bar and the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.


Aubrey Etheridge is an Associate Attorney at Alternative Health Law Firm. She assists clients in a variety of areas including corporate transactions, contracts, government affairs, international business, product development, and regulatory compliance.  Aubrey earned her Bachelor of Science in International Affairs from Florida State University and her Juris Doctor degree, as well as her international law certificate, from Florida State University College of Law. Aubrey is a member of The District of Columbia Bar and The Florida Bar.


Matthew Sadler is a Product Development Specialist with Alternative Health Law Firm.  He has over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and natural product industries, where he has led preclinical, clinical, and overall product development teams for many of the world’s largest R&D-based healthcare companies.  Matthew has extensive experience in the design and conduct of both qualitative and quantitative human efficacy/safety studies, and has strategically recruited and managed teams of world-class scientists – including a team with two Nobel laureates – for business and product development initiatives.  Matthew has considerable experience with both US and Canadian government regulators, and has been instrumental in the government approval of multiple medicines and botanical-based products that are marketed in both countries.

Ashtanga Hridayam V

Topics in Ayurveda: 30 PACE Credits

Course Description:
Ashtanga Hridayam is one of the three major literary works of Ayurveda. Ashtanga Hridayam Part V of the course will include Sutrasthana Chapters 13-15. These chapters deal with the fundamental concepts of treatment and the logic of formulations in Ayurveda. A deep knowledge of these topics is essential for developing skills in diagnosis as well as treatment. Completing parts I, II, III, or IV is not necessary to understand and enjoy Part V. In Ashtanga Hridayam V you will be learning the core concepts of Ayurvedic diagnosis, treatment, and formulations. Ashtanga Hridayam Part V of the course will include Sutrasthana Chapters 13-15.

These chapters deal with the fundamental concepts of treatment and the logic of formulations in Ayurveda. A deep knowledge of these topics are essential for developing skills in diagnosis as well as treatment. Chapter 13 called Doṣopakramaṇīyaṃ deals with principles of formulating treatments to stabilize the doṣhas. Chapter 14 called Dvividhopakramaṇīyaṃ deals with principles of treatment that balance the metabolism of the body. Chapter 15 called Śodhanādigaṇasaṅgrahaṃ lists the various formulations used for śodhana and management of diseases to correct imbalance of the doṣhas.SCU’s Ayurveda program is offering this course in collaboration with Amrita School of Ayurveda at the Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, an Indian university.

Course Objectives:
1) Learn essential Sanskrit terminologies of Ayurveda and will be able to use them without translations.
2) Learn how to formulate treatments targeting specific dosha imbalances.
3) Learn how to formulate treatments targeting dual and triple combination of doṣhas.
4) Learn how to distinguish the Āma and Nirāma stages of disease.
5) Learn about the timings for administration of medicines.
6) Learn about Bṛmhaṇa and Laṅghana methods of treatment as well as their classification
7) Learn about six fold treatment.
8) Learn about the classification of Śamana and Śodhana methods of treatment.
9) Learn about the formulations for management of Obesity and Emaciation.
10) Learn about formulations for cleansing procedures.

This training is designed for bodyworkers and Ayurvedic Health Counselors (AHC), Ayurvedic practitioner (CAP) or doctors, who wish to implement the artful treatment techniques of Ayurveda Sacred Bodywork™ and PanchaKarma into their Ayurvedic practice, PanchaKarma clinic or spa. This vocational training includes a series of 12 Online classes, held over the course of 3-month, a 14-day practicum for live, hands-on learning, and an additional 3-month of guided supervision, in order to gain the needed experience and confidence before graduating. The 300 hour training will take atleast 6-months to complete. 12-online classes over a course of 3-months, 14-days of practicum (individually scheduled for 2-4 students) during the first 3-months, as well as 3-months of guided supervision and support before graduating.
