The Ayurvedic Professionals Association (APA) has two upcoming events:
APA Seminar - Dravyaguna, Polyherbal Formulations & Drug-Herb Interaction
Saturday December 2, 2023 10:30am - 2pm GMT
Ayurveda points out that there is nothing under the sun that does not have potential medicinal value when used appropriately. Poison can become medicine when properly used, but even nectar can become toxic when used improperly—the Ayurvedic discipline of Dravyaguṇa (~Ayurvedic Pharmacology) lays down the principles of combining herbs and administering them in appropriate doses for optimal results. No herb or substance is completely safe or devoid of medicinal properties. Safety depends on proper use, which involves considering four factors.
Assessment of the natural properties of the substance for risk-benefit profiling
Combining with other herbs to enhance benefits and minimize undesirable effects.
Choosing the appropriate method of processing the formulation for optimized drug delivery and bio-availability.
Considering how the formulation will interact with the individual, given the time and place s/he is placed in, diet, lifestyle, and other medications being co-administered. This thought process is called Yukti, or rational use of medications in Ayurveda. Ayurveda points out that Yukti-based treatment ensures safety and efficacy. Even the safest medicine can prove dangerous when administered improperly.
APA Webinar - Teaching yoga for the menstrual cycle - an āyurvedic Approach by Anja Brierley Lange.
Tuesday December 12, 2023 5pm - 6pm GMT
Celebrating one year since the release of her book Teaching yoga for the menstrual cycle - an Ayurvedic approach Anja and the APA presents a webinar based on her book.
The menstrual cycle is often neglected in our approach to general health and well-being unless there are specific gynaecological or menstrual complaints. This includes how most yoga asana classes are taught in the Western world as well as in life in general.
In this webinar, Anja will discuss how we can use the wisdom of Ayurveda in relationship, specifically to yoga. And through yoga (and how it is perceived in the West) to other exercises and how we approach the menstrual cycle in our day-to-day life.
